The other function of CONGOMA is to address the capacity needs of its member NGOs in order for them to deliver quality service to the communities they serve. These capacity needs include governance, skills development and access to information and communication technology (ICT), managerial skills and fundraising among others. This capacity building also focuses on strengthening CONGOMA's own capacity to provide guidance, support services and ensure NGOs’ horizontal and vertical accountability.
In the year 2010 the following are planned for implementation:
- NGO training in project management; working with the media; advocacy and policy analysis
- Setting up a Monitoring and Evaluation system at CONGOMA
- Revision of the NGO Code of Conduct for Malawi
- Develop communication and information sharing policy for CONGOMA
- Revision of membership management strategies
- Training of NGOs in good governance (financial and corporate governance) practices
- Develop an NGO Governance Charter and conduct an NGO governance ranking exercise
- Sensitize NGOs on issues of corruption and money laundering. This will include signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Anti Corruption Bureau and the Finance Intelligence Unit both of the Government of Malawi.
- Distribution on a cost recovery basis of high quality refurbished computers in partnership with Computer Aid International of the United Kingdom to non-profit making institutions.
The activities under this program area are getting financial assistance from the European Union Non State Actors Capacity Building Program; Scottish Government (Scottish Executive) through Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO); Department for International Development (DFID) and CONGOMA itself.
