One of the core functions of CONGOMA is networking and NGO coordination. This function of CONGOMA improves sharing of information and best practices; reduces duplication of efforts which in turn reduces wastage of resources; facilitates partnerships among NGOs and other development stakeholders, makes NGOs learn from each other and as such transfers technology and skills among NGOs and Government including Local Assemblies.
In 2010 the following activities are being implemented:
Setting up and supporting the operations of a Regional Office in Mzuzu in the Northern Region of Malawi by end of March 2010. The office once set up will be responsible for coordination of NGO work in the Northern Region and provide broadband internet to NGOs in the North
- Creation and support of NGO district networks. These networks are currently existing in the North but not fully functioning
- Publication of an NGO impact report which will be out towards the end of 2010
- Publication of policy briefs and newsletters to be accessible in both hard and electronic copies
- Convene periodic networking events for NGOs in each of the three regions of Malawi
- Development of an NGO database
- Hold an NGO publicity event (NGO Week) which allows NGOs to showcase their activities to the general public
These activities are being supported by the European Union – Malawi Government Non State Actors Capacity Building Program; The Scottish Government (Scottish Executive) through the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and local resources from CONGOMA.
